Published: 4 May 2012

SABC2 welcomes distinguished TV and radio personality Kabelo Ngakane as he joins the channel as the host of a new sports show, Sportsview. Sportsview will be broadcast every Sunday at 12:30, starting on 6 May, and he will co-host the show with former Hectic Nine-9 presenter Asanda Maku.

Modelled on the successful Sportsnite format, Sportsview will bring sports fans up to date with sporting news and go behind the scenes to engage with sports personalities. The show focuses on the success and personal development, bringing stories of triumph and hardships, providing viewers with an exciting and intelligent all round national sports coverage.

Sportsview will be shot on all formats including Higher Definition (HD), with an interactive component giving viewers the opportunity to participate in the inserts. Sportsview will honour icons that have made their respective sporting careers, given their hardships, lack of sponsorship and sometimes no family support. The show will include the major sporting codes but will also cover the top 26 popular sports Olympic disciplines in SA on the road to the 2012 London Olympics.

Ngakane’s dedication and hard work paid off when the former Channel O presenter was voted Best Presenter at the Selimathunzi Duku Duku awards in 2005 and Stars Of Mzansi awards in 2008. He is also an accomplished Master of Ceremonies, having compered the fifth annual Metro FM Awards and the 16th Annual South African Music Awards.

Maku was one of the first presenters of the youth show Hectic Nine-9 when it premiered in 2007. She studies drama at Herchel Girls High and made her TV acting début on the SABC1 drama, Interrogation Room.

Catch Sportsview on SABC2 every Sunday at 12:30, starting from 6 May.
