Look at the world of hi-tech crimes, elite hackers and cyber police at the ITWeb Security Summit

The ITWeb Security Summit, taking place from 15 to 17 May at the Sandton Convention Centre, will focus on reinventing information security where trusted technologies have failed. Among the issues to be focused on during the two-day event will be the future of e-money and digital currencies, the cyber war threat, IT security and politics and the rise of hacktivism.

Why do hackers hack? According to US Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) cyber-expert and key-note speaker Kenneth Gears, who will be addressing the subject of cyber warfare, recent research reveals some key reason for attacks:

The ITWeb Security Summit will address every aspect of security, and its current landscapes from:

• Cyber-espionage, sabotage and cyber-warfare;
• e-banking, digital currencies and their impact on security, how we as individuals are “socially engineered” in our everyday lives, how these techniques are used by modern-day criminals and what methods can be used to counter them
• Mobile devices – how safe are we? Understanding the threats that these devises pose to users and how hacking affects impacts corporations and how they should respond.

Key note speakers at the ITWeb Security Summit will address these attacks and security issues. Some keynote speakers include:

• Stella Tembisa Ndabeni, MP and Deputy Minister of Communications Department of Communications: an overview of the South African governments’ cyber security policy and strategy;

• Moxie Marlinspike, a renowned white hat hacker who will present around the issue of trust in light of recent high-profile security breaches;

• Kenneth Geers, US Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) cyber subject matter expert, who will discuss key issues related to cyber war;

• Raj Samani, VP/CTO of McAfee EMEA, who will assess the pertinent topic of cybercriminals and social engineering;

• Doctor Charlie Miller – ‘banned in the US’ - principal research consultant at Accuvant Labs who will speak about Instastock, his app which circumvented the App Store review process and broke code signing;

• Jon Matonis, a money specialist who will discuss security in a world of digital currencies.
