Published: 28 June 2012

In the next episode of Carte Blanche, set to air on M-Net and M-Net HD on Sunday, 1 July at 19:00, find out more about Bruno Pelizzari and Debbie Calitz who were kidnapped by pirates, where or not people can really live forever and inspirational three-year-old, Pippie Kruger who survived horrific burns at a family braai.

Bruno and Debbie:
The first story on this hapless couple was done way back in 2010, after the yacht they were working on was set upon by pirates. The captain and his vessel got away, but deckhands Bruno Pelizzari and Debbie Calitz were kidnapped and, a month later, the pirates demanded a ransom of $10-million. And so began an ordeal that ended only last week.

Can We Live Forever?
Old age is a treatable disease, says Aubrey de Grey, a Cambridge gerontologist, who is disputing most of what we know about longevity. He says humans will attain amazing and youthful old age in the lifetimes of those currently in their 40s and 50s. So far no-one has managed to disprove him.

Cloned Skin:
Pippie Kruger has captured the headlines, six months after she suffered burns beside the family braai in Limpopo. Initially given a 10% survival chance, her mother refused to accept defeat, instead deciding on cutting edge technology to give her daughter a chance at a normal life.

Durban July Fever:
Is this still the sizzling sporting bonanza it always was? Or do famous names like 'Sea Cottage' and 'Politician' belong to a golden era when the Durban July was a classy event and its horse’s household names?
