This new play by John Logan explores the fascinating creative process and inner conflict of famous American artist Mark Rothko. The action takes place while he is painting a group of murals in his New York studio (1958-9) for the expensive and exclusive Four Seasons restaurant. Under the watchful gaze of his young assistant and the threatening presence of a new generation of artists, Rothko takes on his greatest challenge yet: to create a definitive work for an extraordinary setting.
Red stars South African theatre veteran Michael Richard as the Rothko, with Jeremy Richard as his assistant, Ken. The play will be directed by Steven Stead and designed by Greg King with lighting design by Tina le Roux.
Red will be on at the Old Mutual Threatre from 18 July to 11 August. Bookings can be made by calling the theatre on 011 883-8606 or Strictly Tickets on 082 553 5903/1 or online –
