Jungle Theatre Company to present River Of Life at Masque Theatre

Published: 4 July 2012

Thanks to the National Lottery Distribution Trust Fund, the Jungle Theatre Company will be presenting the River Of Life show and a mask making workshop at the Masque Theatre in Muizenberg.

A local school holiday activity, River Of Life is an African tale of a rural tribe and a princess who finds the courage to travel a path alone. She faces a hot dry desert, a teaming jungle and climbs the tallest mountain, all to save the life of the river and her village.

A proudly South African story, River Of Life is an original Xhosa story with a modern twist. The play is performed by the Laduma Jungle Graduates who created the show under the direction of Vincent Meyburgh. The same team was commissioned to perform at ABSA KKNK this year. The show is best suited for children 5 to 12 years old but is also “great fun for all the family”, says Laduma Jungle graduate Nokubonga Jita who plays Princess Mamlambo.

Join an eMzantsi Mapiko mask-making workshop directly after the show in the Make Space. eMzantsi’s Mapiko programme is currently training 20 adults with disabilities from Ocean View and Masiphumelele in recycled craft making.
