In the next episode of Carte Blanche ...

Published: 6 July 2012

In the next episode of Carte Blanche set to air on Sunday, 8 July at 19:00 on M-Net and M-Net HD, find out more about the new Boeing that government intends to purchase for the president; the tow truck industry and the war that rages between companies; and a new scam that is affecting people who are looking to rent homes.

The President’s Jet:
The use of specific aircraft to transport leaders began during the Second World War when Roosevelt travelled to the 1943 Casablanca Conference in a Boeing 314 flying boat. Nowadays it’s commonplace and, despite calls to make use of commercial flights, it’s more convenient because of the pressures of the top job. But our Defence department is toying with the idea of a 300-seater Boeing for our President, with a price tag that could make one airsick.

Up in Flames:
Tow trucking has never been a gentleman’s game. Maybe it attracts cowboys; maybe the nature of the industry breeds predators. But tactics in Limpopo seem to be making even the diehards of the East Rand look tame.

Rental Rackets:
Finding a place to rent can be tedious and one of the blessings of the Internet is that it can save time. But so do con artists and a new scam has emerged in which they pretend the property is theirs and disappear with the deposits of trusting wannabe tenants.

Cleaning our Waterways:
Worldwide, more than a billion people lack access to safe water and by 2020 it’s estimated that low income countries in Asia and sub-Saharan Africa could experience fresh water scarcity. And it seems little is being done about it. Cape Town announced years ago that it planned to clean the City’s fouled up waterways.

The next episode of Carte Blanche will be broadcast on Sunday, 8 July at 19:00 on M-Net and M-Net HD.
