Several themes will be present throughout the festival with films such as
Elelwani by Ntshavheni wa Luruli starring Florence Masebe, which will be opening the festival as well as the delightful story of animal kingdom ubuntu in the pioneering 3D animation
Adventures in Zambezia, which will close the Durban
International Film Festival.
Contemporary European films will also showcase with films such as
Le Havre by Aki Kaurusmäki and Michael Glawogger’s
Whore’s Glory from Austria. There will be a focus on French Film – such as the biopic on Burmese leader Aung San Sui Kyi,
The Lady. Of special mention is a piece by Global Cinema – which brings the celebrated
Beasts of the Southern Wild directed by Benh Zeitlin. Eco-issues will also be explored in films such as
Bitter Seeds and
LoveMEATender. Each theme highlights film makers’ talents and passion in comedies, documentaries, drama and story-telling.
