Nair beat out hundreds of hopeful mixmasters to win the coveted position of 5fm’s second Ultimix@6 competition. Says the excited 25-year-old Durbanite, "Winning the Ultimix@6 competition is possibly the greatest achievement in my DJ career. This is a huge opportunity for me, one which I am very grateful for and I will most definitely be using it to the fullest.” Nair adds that he’s especially excited about playing alongside 5fm’s legendary Fresh and Euphonik during the Ultimix@6 Vol. 3 album tour, which will visit Johannesburg, Cape Town, Nelspruit and Bloemfontein in August.

The Ultimix@6 competition was started last year in an effort by The Fresh Drive, 5fm’s award-winning afternoon-drive show, to find up-and-coming new DJ talent and give them the opportunity to showcase their skills. Says DJ Fresh, host of The Fresh Drive, “I think Ryan is a hot DJ talent. He did his mix live – anyone who can do what he did live deserves to win.”

Winning the Ultimix@6 competition has the potential to catapult the winner into the big leagues. Says last year’s winner, DJ Wags, "The Ultimix@6 is a brilliant platform to build your brand and it gave me the opportunity to leave my accounting job and focus full time on my DJing and production, which has always been my dream. The Ultimix@6 Vol. 3 album tour parties will be held in August at these destinations around SA:

Joburg – Friday, 10 August
Nelspruit – Friday, 17 August
Cape Town – Friday, 24 August
Bloemfontein – Friday, 31 August
