With a selection of over 150 beers from more than 60 local and international brewers including IPA's, porters, brown ales and lambics, festival goers had plenty to experience and learn about the art and passion behind brewing beer.
With live music, delicious food, guided beer tours, rugby on big screens and of course plenty of beer to drink the atmosphere was nothing short of festive; even the weather played it's part in making this the most successful year yet.
Congratulations to brewers who won awards at the festival in what was the biggest commercial beer judging of its kind in Africa. The Best Microbrewed Ale went to Devils Peak Brewing with their Kings Blockhouse IPA while the Best Microbrewed Lager was shared by Darling Brewery Slow Beer and Jack Black Lager. Best Commercial Ale went to La Chouffe and finally SAB’s Pilsner Urquell scooped up both Best Commercial Lager and Best Beer on Show.
The Cape Town Festival of Beer
is also thrilled to announce that SAB raised a whopping R10 000 for Rhinos in Hand, a non-profit organisation geared towards stopping rhino poaching.
“A special thanks goes to the passionate beer loving public that came out over the weekend and to our partners Carling Black Label, Cape Town Tourism, Good Hope FM
and Santam for bringing so much to the festival this year and making it such a success”, said Jason Slinger, organiser of the Festival. “We look forward to next year’s event and will be bringing an even bigger variety of beer to the table.”
