Sake24 editor, David van Rooyen, was announced as the overall winner of the Citadel Words on Money Journalism Awards 2012 during a function held on Thursday, 17 May in Johannesburg. Van Rooyen has won categories in previous years of the competition but this is the first time he has walked away with the main prize.

South Africa’s only Afrikaans business newspaper, Sake24, is on a winning streak by recently winning a number of prominent industry awards. Sake24 journalist, Jan de Lange, won three section prizes at the annual Sanlam Awards for Excellence in Financial Journalism.

Sake24, South Africa’s only Afrikaans business newspaper, experienced an average 7% jump in readership over the last six months, and a 2% growth year-on-year. This is according to the latest All Media Products Survey (AMPS) results released on the 29 March.

The versatile broadcast and print media journalist Bruce Whitfield was named the Sanlam Financial Journalist of the Year for 2008 in Johannesburg this evening. He is only the second journalist in the 34-year history of the competition to win the title in consecutive years. The late Deon Basson claimed two such doubles in his illustrious career.
