Times Media has announced that Marvin Meintjies will be the editor of Sunday World as from Friday, 1 March. Meintjies was previously deputy editor at The Times, and is currently deputy editor of the Sunday Times. His appointment follows the departure of former Sunday World editor, Wally Mbhele, who took up an academic post in 2012.
The circus is coming to town at the Gold Reef City Theme Park’s Hippodrome from Saturday, 8 December to Sunday, 6 January.

The Times has overtaken The Star in terms of newspaper circulation, according to the audited ABC figures released for the second quarter of 2011. The Times gained a 13.2% increase during the preceding twelve month period, with circulation reaching an average of 147,224 copies per day.

Newspaper readers’ AMPS thumbs-up for Media24 publications
Readership of Media24 newspapers did very well in the past year, according to the most recent All Media and Products Survey (AMPS) statistics released by the South African Advertising Research Foundation (SAARF).

SABC3 comes third
The Star columnist, Roland Solomon recently wrote that the nightly SABC3 English news bulletins have the fewest viewers of any channel – at 600 000 to 700 000, compared to over a million who watch the Afrikaans news or e.tv.

Court papers show SABC&#39;s cheaper tender

Court to hear FIFA agent demolish SABC claims
The Star reports that the SABC has been taken to court by Digital Horizons over a tender dispute. 2010 World Cup and its media impact
A number of media forums are being held today at the Southern Sun Elangeni Hotel in Durban, where hundreds of guests are gathered to be part of the events leading up to tomorrow night’s Award Ceremony and Gala Evening at The International Convention Centre, during which the CNN MultiChoice African Journalist of the Year 2009 will be announced.
According to Skyways, which quotes the recent AMPS 2008 statistics, the top five TV stations, according to number of viewers, are: SABC 2; e.tv; SABC 3; SABC 1; and M-Net Movies 1. The reach of TV as percentages of the total LSM 8-10 category is by far the highest of the media groups, and is the only category where specific media titles reaches more than 50% of this LSM category.
