Kagiso Broadcasting has announced the immediate availability of Jacaranda FM and East Coast Radio applications for the new re-designed, re-engineered, and re-invented BlackBerry® 10 platform.
Ja.fm, the first South African digital radio station that drives its playlists through its listeners' votes, has grown its audience from around 4 500 unique browsers in January 2012 to nearly 100,000 in January 2013.
<i>Jacaranda FM</i> opens its broadcast headquarters in Midrand
Jacaranda FM officially opened its state-of-the-art broadcast headquarters on Thursday, 7 March. The new home, situated in the business hub of Midrand, was opened by executive director of Kagiso Media and CEO of Kagiso Broadcasting, Omar Essack and chief financial officer of Kagiso Media, Siphokhazi Chivizhe.
Following the recent announcement of a new radio station for Cape Town, joint chairpersons of Cape Town Radio, Anant Singh and Dr Ernest Messina, revealed that the new radio station will be known as Smile 90.4FM. It will soon hit the airwaves providing entertainment, information and inspiration to listeners in the Cape Metropolitan area.
Entries for the 2013 MTN Radio Awards have closed and it is now up to the Adjudication Panel to review and score the submissions.
Mediamark has launched its new Events division, assisting in the provision of multimedia marketing solutions that will address advertisers’ goals across media channels. This division will be working closely with its serviced radio stations in order to commercialise events that are owned and operated by the stations.
Jacaranda FM together with its sales arm, Mediamark will be hosting their annual BrandXpand during the week of 18 February at the station’s broadcast centre in Midrand.
Dein Perry, the creator and choreographer of the worldwide dance sensation, Tap Dogs will accompany the show when it returns to South Africa, opening at the Teatro at Montecasino on Tuesday, 12 February for four weeks, and ending on Sunday, 10 March. Thereafter the show moves to Artscape, Cape Town for sixteen shows only from Wednesday, 13 to Sunday, 24 March.

Drama and excitement when fiction became reality with <i>Jacaranda FM</i>
The public opened their hearts during the recent auction of Parlotones drummer Neil Pauw’s painting on 18 April, and pledged R570 000 towards the training of tracker dogs, which will assist in Jacaranda FM’s anti-rhino-poaching efforts. The event took place at Jacaranda FM’s Montecasino studio and the band surprised the public with several live performances in the studio.
While Jacaranda FM was rocking Loftus Versfeld with a crowd of over 20 000 concert-goers at Jacaranda Day, the station was also shaking up the competition at the MTN Radio Awards, picking up four awards at the Sandton Convention Centre on Saturday, 14 April.
The 2012 MTN Radio Awards held a number of big wins for Kagiso Broadcasting and radio brands Jacaranda FM, Heart 104.9FM and East Coast Radio. Radio ratings undisturbed by World Cup
On Thursday, 12 August, the South African Advertising Research Foundation (SAARF) presented the results of the third RAMS release for the year. This was a combined rolling wave of two fieldwork periods, including data collected from mid-March to early May, and early May to the beginning of July. This was the last release to use the small urban/ rural sample from 2009.

Radio continues stable streak
The 15 June 2010 RAMS release by the South African Advertising Research Foundation (SAARF) combined the mid-January to mid-March wave, and the mid-March to mid-May wave. The fieldwork period included the large urban component and the June sample consisted of 25 693 diary keepers, amounting to an average of 2.5 diaries per household. Decline in radio listenership due to inclusion of latest samples
By Desi Tzoneva On Thursday, 29 April, SAARF released the most recent RAMS figures, which for the first time, included the new urban/ rural database. The small urban/ rural sample will now be refreshed twice a year, in April and October.
Key staff leaving Kaya FM
The City Press reports that Kaya FM has seen various departures of key staff members. The station has shed news journalist, Amos Phago; head of marketing and research, Sipho Dube; and events co-ordinators, Nompumelelo Mohla and Mahiodi Makate. Also gone is programming manager, Neil Johnson, who has joined sister station Jacaranda FM.
