Celebrating the 200th anniversary of Fredrick Chopin’s birth in Zelazowa Wola, near Warsaw, Poland in 1810, acclaimed South African concert pianist, Christopher Duigan, marks this special occasion with a selection of music focusing on the composer's highly engaging musical output.
FNB Dance Umbrella 2010, presented by First National Bank in association with the National Arts Council and The Market Theatre will run from 27 February to 14 March. Performances will take place at various Johannesburg theatres: the Wits Theatre in Braamfontein; the UJ Centre for the Arts in Auckland Park; and The Dance Factory; The Market Theatre; and the Barney Simon theatre in Newtown.
Aside from 20 programmes which will include contemporary dance; hip hop; performance art; and Afro-fusion, the FNB Dance Umbrella will present two series of workshops; face-to-face interviews with choreographers; and for the first time, a Dance Writers Workshop, which will be presented by arts journalist, Adrienne Sichel.
