ImageVodacom, South Africa’s leading cellular network, is continuing its mission to make communications technology available to all South Africans. The launch of the new low cost, easy-to-use ZTE S302 cellphone has a range of benefits for an array of specific needs.

The ZTE S302 cellphone brought to South Africans exclusively by Vodacom and available from 1 October 2009, has features that allow for greater functionality to users with specific needs. The cellphone has a large visual display and large buttons that make it ideal for anyone who has trouble reading the symbols on other cellphone keypads or who may have limited hand dexterity.

“Whether you are an older person that requires an uncomplicated handset to call family and friends or you need a cellphone that can accommodate weakened eyesight, the ZTE S302 is equipped to meet your needs,” says Shameel Joosub, Managing Director, Vodacom South Africa.

The ZTE S302 features a loud ringing tone, which someone like 76-year old, Barbara Jacobs really appreciates. “Now when my grandkids ring me up, I don’t miss any calls”, she says.

The ZTE S302 also includes features that may be of help in an emergency situation, with a SOS button that works in conjunction with a number pre-programming functionality. Users can pre-programme four numbers, enabling the cellphone to automatically SMS these contacts once the SOS button is pressed. If there is no response to the SMSs sent, the cellphone will start calling each of these emergency contacts in a three-way cycle.

“I can even pre-programme a free emergency response number like 082 112 or my next door neighbour’s number, which is such a relief”, says Ellie Madlopha, a 66-year-old grandmother from Johannesburg.

“Communication is not a luxury for the few, but a necessity that must be afforded to everyone”, says Joosub. “Being connected gives people independence, keeps them in contact with their loved ones and provides vital access to emergency services”, he emphasises.

Vodacom is offering the ZTE S302 cellphone at the recommended retail price of R399.00 (incl. VAT), including a free Vodacom starter pack. The cellphone will also be available on the Top Up 49 option with a fixed monthly fee of R35.00 for 24 months, which includes a free ZTE S302 cellphone and R49.00 airtime credit per month, and on the Top Up 75 option, which includes two cellphones; R75.00 airtime credit per month; and a free Vodacom starter pack.
