Parents; kids; grannies; and grandpa’s are encouraged to participate in the sixth annual Boardwalk, Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer taking place on 24 October this year. Organisers hope to have over 3 000 runners / walkers at the event which will consist of an easy-going 10km and 5km fun run or walk for people of all ages.

“Last year we had a record 2 626 people taking part in the event, and this year we hope to have more than 3 000,” says Algoa FM Promotions Co-ordinator, Larissa Scharneck. “Every year, families; friends; and businesses come together to walk or run for a worthy cause.”

There are loads of fantastic prizes up for grabs and the first 1 000 participants to collect their info bags on Friday evening, 23 October will receive free T-shirts. Other prizes include Boardwalk and Fish River Sun vouchers, and Algoa FM gift packs.

“This is one of our most exciting fundraisers of the year,” says Joan Duarte, Project Facilitator for the Cancer Association of South Africa (CANSA) in the Eastern Cape.

“The money raised will go towards our services in the Eastern Cape which include education, prevention, awareness and patient care. We would like to encourage everyone to participate in this event with us.”

The races will begin at The Boardwalk between 07:00 and 07:15 and the circuit will take participants around the Summerstrand area. They will finish back at The Boardwalk.

Entry forms can be collected from Sportsman’s Warehouse; Brian Bands; Action Sports; Sports World; The Footballer; Brookets Sports; Go Experiences; and Algoa FM. Entry fees are R20 for the 10km circuit and R15 for the 5km circuit. Closing date for entry is 21 October.
