Jet Club donates soccer kit
Publicity 23
Jet Club donated 46 sets of soccer kit, balls, and shin guards on Saturday, 5 February to Vhakhegula Vhakhegula (“grandmothers grandmothers” in Tsonga), a ladies soccer team of women over the age of 60 who hail from Senwarabane Village in Buchu, Polokwane.
The team were sent to Boston, USA earlier this year to compete in the U.S Adult Soccer Association Veterans Cup, that they subsequently won. The team is made up of women, mostly in their sixties and seventies, who decided to take up soccer to keep fit. Most of the women used to be domestic workers who have spent their whole lives making beds, doing dishes, washing and ironing, scrubbing floors and cleaning ovens and bathrooms. They have no playing facilities for their soccer team — not even changing rooms — and they train in between caring and cooking for their families and keeping their homes clean. Pictured here outside the Bochum Jet store are the team sporting their new Jet Club soccer kit.
