Murder on Honeymoon
In one of our first stories this year, we travelled to England to report on a murder mystery stranger than fiction. It’s six months later, and this past week saw honeymoon accused Shrien Dewani back in a London court, albeit briefly because of his fragile mental state. South African authorities resumed their bid to have him extradited for allegedly ordering his wife Anni’s murder while on honeymoon in Cape Town late last year. Carte Blanche brings you more on that story, with exclusive access to Anni Dewani’s family and the prosecution case, and a recording of an interview with Dewani himself.

Doctored Doctorates
To most people, obtaining a PhD is the culmination of years of dedication and hard work. But there are a few hundred unaccredited universities in the world that just dole them out, with the recipients doing little more than pay up. These institutions often have names similar to legitimate places of learning, and the brains behind them make a tidy sum. Now it’s emerged that some highly-placed South African academics may have fraudulently obtained their qualifications. Carte Blanche investigates some doctored doctorates.
