They urge any food, beverage or lifestyle associated brand that has launched in South Africa in the past 12 months to enter.

The Good Food & Wine Product of the Year Awards are designed to develop and grow brands in South Africa’s developing but volatile socio-economic environment. A vital component of building and managing brands is research and setting brand objectives. The awards are open to any manufacturer of a food, beverage or associated lifestyle product which has been introduced to the market in the last 12 months.

This awards programme involves both votes from the public and the input of leading judges, on original product entries. These judges are all top industry leaders in various fields and the winner of this competition will be offered to take their product to the next level.

The result is one lucky winner who receives R1-million worth of development for their business. This is made up of the following:

• R750 000 worth of Nielsen research.
• A 36m2 stand at the 2012 Good Food and Wine Show, valued at R69 300 excluding VAT.
• A consultation to the value of R30 000 with the CEO of Product of the Year.
• A 12-month 'In the Spotlight' campaign on The Good Food and Wine Show website.
• A guaranteed listing with a major national retailer.

The winner of each category listed below will also receive an invitation to the 2012 Product of The Year Awards, a truly exclusive experience, where success is the order of the day and networking opportunities are aplenty.

It’s truly an offer that no original product developer can afford to miss. Apart from the extensive benefits awarded to the winners, they also have the opportunity to use their Award on pack in store nationally for a twelve month period.

The following table provides an easy reference to the six competition categories:

Category Description
Technology Products that support the primary cooking process. These can be traditional appliances (stoves, fridges, blenders etc) or new technology such as console based recipe books to computer programmes.
Convenience Products that facilitate an easier process of creating good food. These are food products that have value added to them thereby minimising the processes required until final consumption.
Packaging These are products that bring something new to the South African food industry. Product must be easily useable to ensure that it represents innovation and ease of use.
Innovative Concept Products that aim at consumers interested in a healthier approach to their eating habits. Product will be tested based on consumer perception of their stance on healthy eating vs a pure mathematical breakdown of content.
GRAND PRIX Product that best engages the consumer’s imagination. This is a product that both surprises the consumers and creates a strong desire for the consumer to actually use the product.

Good Food & Wine Show exhibitors have the unbelievable opportunity of entering their product into this hugely respected competition, free of charge! Whilst those not exhibiting may still enter the awards programme at a cost of R5 000 excl VAT per product entry.

If you have a product in the food, beverage or associated lifestyle sector that you have launched within the past twelve months, please e-mail Tyron on [email protected], or call him on 021 702 2280 to enter.
