(Community: Community Affairs)

ILANGA was launched in 1903 by John Langalibalele Dube, the first President of the African National Congress. It was originally known as Ilanga laseNatali (Natal Sun), later changed to ILANGA so as to capture a national appeal.

ILANGA is a bi-weekly newspaper, published on Mondays and Thursdays. The Thursday edition has a print run of 116 000 copies and the Monday edition a print run of 127 000 copies. ILANGA delivers the Zulu perspective on sport, local news, politics, education and entertainment. From traditionalists to modern Zulu, ILANGA is the newspaper of choice.

A community-based publication of ILANGA (Ilanga leTheku) was established last year. This free-sheet publication was circulated mainly in Durban and its surrounding areas. However, this tabloid publication is now part of the Thursday edition as an insert.

ILANGA publishers, Mandla/Mandla Publishing, made history by publishing the first ever Sunday Zulu newspaper known as ILANGA langeSonto, also distributed nationally.
