The Lanseria exhibit will comprise various aspects of aviation and related sectors including cabin crew training, air-schools, catering and airport careers among others after which the airline plans to roll out similar events nationally.

“Education, opportunity creation and community lies at the heart of our corporate sustainability strategy and, given the vast number of enquiries we receive daily, Mango opted to create a resource opportunity for interested parties, getting the industry together to share knowledge and insight with all individuals aspiring to a career in one of the many facets of aviation,” says Mango CEO Nico Bezuidenhout. An online career resource centre will follow early next year with more national events planned in 2013.

Bezuidenhout believes that a career in aviation, particularly as African aviation is ascending, could position South Africa as a leader in sector skills development. “The domestic industry has led continental aviation for decades and, as more and more airlines – particularly low cost carriers – develop across the region opportunities for highly trained individuals will become available.” He says that while the local industry may be under pressure at this time, opportunities still abound. “Cabin crew or flight deck careers are only two of a myriad of opportunities available; from ramp agents through to avionic engineering, IT and even chefs. There is great potential for a rewarding vocation.”

The Mango Career Day takes place on Thursday, 25 and Friday, 26 October between 10:00 and 16:00 at Lanseria International Airport. Interested parties may seek more information on Mango’s Facebook page or email Hein.
