The first mobile screening unit offers cervical cancer screening to women in the Thabo Mofutsanyane district in the Free State and while the other services the remote areas of the Karoo. These mobile cervical cancer screening units assist women who are unable to visit distant clinics and they also provide an additional service for overwhelmed clinics who very often cannot conduct Pap Smears due to understaffing issues.

Commenting on their involvement in the Right to Care initiative, 1st for Women’s managing director, Robyn Farrell says, “Cervical cancer is one of the most preventable types of cancer, yet it is disturbingly common in South Africa and is the biggest cause of cancer-related deaths in women in our country, claiming more than 3 400 South African women each year. We believe it is fundamentally important to increase women’s awareness of this disease and emphasise the importance of preventative screening and hence our partnership with Right to Care on this extremely important initiative. By branding the vehicles we hope to create a more visible presence for Right to Care in the communities in which they work and in this way further increase awareness around these women’s health issues.”

Designed by Graffiti’s in-house design department, each mobile screening vehicle features eye-catching, feminine pink and purple Right to Care branding along with the various women’s healthcare services offered by the units on each side of the vehicles.

Says Graffiti managing director, John Rice, “We commend 1st for Women on their involvement in this hugely important healthcare issue as their support will literally save lives. Women’s healthcare is very close to our hearts - Graffiti sponsors the branding of all the PinkDrive mobile breast cancer screening units as part of our commitment to increasing awareness around breast cancer. These types of initiatives that service our communities and assist our healthcare clinics are making a massive difference in the lives of so many thousands of South African women.”

Ends Farrell, “Our Right to Care sponsorship is not where our support ends - we are also committed to raising awareness for cervical cancer through our own efforts. Our 1st for Women Insurance Trust has, since its inception in 2005, donated over R16-million to women-related causes and charity organisations. Gender Based Violence and cancers affecting women are the causes most voted for by our policyholders and as a result, this is where the bulk of the funds are allocated.”
