Waseef Piekaan is one of Cape Town’s hottest rising stars, and has impressed audiences in productions such as Vocal is Lekka alongside a star-studded line-up including Terry Fortune, Loukmaan Adams and Bongile Mantsai; and the a cappella musical, A Town Called Fokol Lutho.

Written and performed by Piekaan, who also composed all the songs, Wrongly Accused was first presented at the Baxter Theatre Centre as part of their Zabalaza Festival, which nurtures and showcases the work of new artists. His powerhouse performance won him a Best Actor Award at the festival and for this holiday season run, Piekaan has teamed up with seasoned director Basil Appollis, with co-direction by Thami Mbongo, to develop the production even further.

Wrongly Accused follows a young man who finds himself in deep trouble with the law when he is accused of robbing an Indian cellphone-shop owner. Piekaan plays six characters to hilarious effect, blending pathos, comic timing, Ghoema songs and ballads, to create a dynamite theatre experience.

Wrongly Accused is a Baxter Theatre and Zabalaza Intsika eBaxter Theatre production. The show is performed in Afrikaans with some English. It will be performed in the Baxter Masambe Theatre until Saturday, 18 January 2014, Tuesdays to Saturdays at 20:30. The performance on Friday, 31 January 2014 starts at 22:15.

Tickets cost R100 and R80 for Senior citizens. Tickets for New Years Eve cost R180, which includes a complimentary glass of sparkling wine or orange juice, live entertainment and a spectacular balloon drop.
