The International Press Institute (IPI) is a global network of editors, media executives and leading journalists, dedicated to the furtherance and safeguarding of press freedom, the protection of freedom of opinion and expression, the promotion of the free flow of news and information, and the improvement of the practices of journalism.

In a signing ceremony between Al Jazeera and the IPI, Dr. Mostefa Souag, Al Jazeera’s acting director general, commented, "As part of our on-going commitment to press freedom, Al Jazeera is delighted to be hosting this milestone event alongside our colleagues at IPI. It’s especially important that this event will be held in the Middle East as this is something that will help further the cause of press freedom and the improvement of standards in the region."

The 2015 IPI World Congress currently being held in Yangon in Myanmar. Previous congresses have been held in Cape Town, South Africa in 204, Amman in Jordan in 2013 and Port of Spain inTrinidad and Tobago in 2012.
