In April and May, the festival celebrates the 56th anniversary of the European Union’s establishment with an array of events showcasing the music, art and cinema of the EU Member States, as their embassies to South Africa present their individual cultural events under the EuropeFest 2015 umbrella.

Radio Today
, which broadcasts on 1485AM in Johannesburg and nationally on DStv audio channel 869, will air a series of special programmes to coincide with the festival.

They kicked off on Thursday, 30 April at 18:00 with Paul Perreira interviewing Roeland van de Geer, the EU Ambassador to South Africa, on the motivation and significance behind this jam-packed month of top-flight culture.

Look out for entertaining and informative inserts on Croatian tourism, Spanish cuisine, and Portuguese and German culture. Plus, get a heads-up on what’s in store during the UK/SA Season – in which both countries present the cream of their respective cultural crops.

And if you’ve ever fancied a free French lesson, tune in at 14:00 on Monday, 25 May for a light-hearted tutorial on French words and their meanings courtesy of the French Institute’s Charles Courdent, hosted by Carolyn Steyn and Michael de Pinna.

“We are thrilled to be giving our listeners the opportunity to gain more insights into modern-day life in Europe, showcasing its vibrant cultural diversity which mirrors that of our own country in many ways,” says James Kinloch, station manager of Radio Today. “We’re confident that these programmes will help foster meaningful dialogue while also enhancing cross-cultural understanding.”
