Left is based in Johannesburg, but secured its footing in Cape Town when senior editor Saki Bergh moved there in July 2014 to meet increasing demands in the realm of commercial and television production, music videos and feature films.

With Evy Katz taking the helm at Left Johannesburg, seasoned film editor Richard Starkey, also based in Cape Town, will join the Left team when he is not cutting features.

Starkey, a SAFTA Award-nominated film and television editor with 18 years of experience in features, has garnered numerous Loerie Awards and nominations. He spends most of his time cutting commercials and editing documentaries. Recent highlights include the grading of five short films for the Encounters Festival, editing Shark Kill Zone, a documentary for National Geographic USA, post supervising Dream School SA, a 14-part TV series and editing on Battleground Afghanistan for National Geographic.

Executive producer of Left, Jacqui Pearson, comments: "I wanted Richard to join us because of his notable experience- he has been in the industry long enough to appreciate the challenges of understanding brands as well as clients' needs. His skill of creative editing has a strong emphasis on audio and his extensive knowledge of all current digital formats makes him the right fit for the company."

Editor Tumelo Ditshego, known as Tumi, also joins the ranks at Left in May. Having cut his teeth at Visual Assault post Productions in 1998 under the leadership of editing stalwart Marcelle Mouton, he went on to become senior editor and worked with some big brands and top directors. He joined Earth Touch in Durban for a year. Back in Johannesburg, he joined Velvet Films as their in-house commercials editor. He now brings his expertise to Left Post Productions.

"What appeals to me about the company is their reputation of being slightly off the wall- without losing professionalism - their track record is impressive, with top clients in the film and music industry, notably Skrillex and Die Antwoord," says Ditshego.

Pearson remarks: "Tumi is a coup for Left - his calm, quiet, yet confident disposition and years of experience in editing with SA’s top creatives boosts our variety of talent. Left's producers and support staff for our creative team allow us to be energetic and passionate - adding to our team enhances our diversity; through them we acquire an even better understanding of clients and their creative expectations of their brands that see the industry evolving at a rapid rate."

"Adaptability, creativity, and being solution driven in a non-conformist way is what makes the 'Lefties' respect the craft and achieve their clients' aspirations. With Richard and Tumi joining the company this year, we're ready to fly higher."

Left contains superb facilities that include Final Cut X, Flame, Smoke, After FX and Da Vinci Resolve, Avid, Adobe Premier and a Pro tools audio suite. It is the Loeries 2014 Number One Editing company and secured the Creative Circle Ad of the Year for editing. Senior editor Evy Katz was awarded the number three position in 2014 by Loeries Rankings with the internationally acclaimed Skrillex ragga bomb music video.
