Among Cape Town surfers, Chris Bertish is a local legend. To the international surf legends of America's west coast, he is the crazy guy from South Africa with the ridiculously short board who had guts, a broad smile and a death wish to go for anything.

Bertish beat the odds and the world’s best, on a day that redefined the sport of big wave surfing forever. With commentary from Kelly Slater, Greg Long, Mark Healy, Clark Abbey, Gary Linden, Carlos Burle and more, this inspiring story of one humble man's journey to big wave stardom, will redefine the way people reach for their own dreams.

“I’m super proud to be launching our film, Ocean Driven, at the San Diego Surf Film Festival, in America this week alongside movies by one of my childhood heroes, Sonny Miller, what an honor,” exclaims Bertish. “It’s been a long hard road over the last four years putting this film together, with the help of so many amazing people, friends and family. It’s pretty overwhelming to get to this point where it’s actually finished, it’s real and we’ve made the official selection into one of the premiere film festivals in the USA, I’m blown away,” he says.

“It just proves again, that if you really believe in something strongly enough and have the courage and heart to follow it through, you can achieve anything. This is another amazing dream come true.”

The film is made in collaboration with Aurelia Productions in America and Fixer Films in South Africa, with assistance from the National Film & Video Foundation (NFVF).

Ocean Driven, is a gritty story of courage, determination and the power of dreams. It's launching and premiering in the USA, at the San Diego Surf Film Festival, on Thursday, 21 May, as an official festival selection. It launches in South Africa at the end of the year
