Regional semi finalists from across Gauteng and the North West recently joined hands with the community of Mondeor as they cleaned up the Bloubos Spruit. This has been an annual project for the past five years and it sees not only community building, a renewed ownership of public spaces but an opportunity to practice active citizenship.

Almost 100 volunteers joined the clean up including Cllr Sergio Dos Santos, Generation Earth council members from the Oprah Winfrey Academy for Girls, Sacred Heart, Wits Council members as well as St Johns. Valpre Spring Water kept everyone refreshed and former Miss Earth South Africa Ashanti Mbanga joined the festivities too.

Monday, 1 June is the start of National Environment Week and in the next few days regional ambassadors will continue with clean up campaigns, greening projects at schools and on Saturday, 6 June, they will join the Mayor of Joburg, Parks Tau, Pikitup and Lead SA for the #TeamUpToCleanUp campaign which aims to drive active citizenship and community participation to clean up their areas.
