Glasshouse Communication Management team volunteered their time on Nelson Mandela Day to help the over-burdened staff by interacting with, and spoiling babies who live at the Princess Alice Adoption Home in Westcliff, Johannesburg, while waiting for adoption.

Princess Alice Adoption Home is a temporary place of safety which provides 24-hour residential care to babies who have been consented for adoption, abandoned or removed from family care. About 30 babies and toddlers (aged newborn to two-years-old) live in a healthy and loving nursery environment, until they are adopted.

The Home is more than a care facility for babies, it is also a safe haven for up to four pregnant girls at a time who are destitute or in crisis. While at the home, the birth moms are counselled and helped to decide whether to keep their baby or consent for adoption.

To mark the day the Glasshouse team comforted, fed and helped with nappy changes. Not only did the team volunteer time, but also donated a collection of nappies and a variety of baby care products from wet wipes to barrier cream to honour this auspicious day.

All members of the global community are encouraged to participate in Nelson Mandela Day by adhering to the ethical framework of “service to one’s fellow human” and that is exactly what Glasshouse did in support on Saturday, 18 July 2015.
