Newsclip`s tour of the Caxton printing press

by Leigh Andrews on 26 September 2008

This week, a team from Newsclip took part in a fascinating tour of Caxton’s printing press in Industria, where Caxton’s community newspapers, as well as the Citizen, The Sowetan and the Financial Times are printed. The sheer size and sound of everything involved in the printing process, from the machinery to the giant reams of paper, is quite overwhelming! Image

Tour guide Rian Kruger took us through the entire printing process, littering his speech with many interesting facts. For example, did you know that newspapers are produced through "cold setting", and magazines are produced through "heat setting"? Do you know what these are, and what the difference between them is? Do you know what litho printing involves?

Click here to read my full story on the tour, and the newspaper`s seemingly "technologically backwards" journey, from digital start to printed end.
