The Times LIVE new-look website does not please

by Desi Tzoneva on 16 September 2009

The Times re-launched its website, with a new-look and feel and has called it Times LIVE. The research into the design process was taken from Scandinavian countries, which have the highest internet penetration rates, as well as the highest number of online news consumers. It therefore made sense that the new-look would be successful in South Africa. Apparently, however, it hasn’t. Visiting the website and reading some of the comments over the past three days, one gets the impression that many of the readers are not happy. This is a curious phenomena. Is it that people are not happy with change in general? Is it that the readers find a drastic fault with the new design (it hasn’t changed that much, it just looks a bit more laden with multimedia)? Is it that readers that are not very tech-savvy find it a bit hard to break old habits and navigate their way around the new site? What are South African readers looking for?

Won't be visiting them anymore. Used to comment quite a bit there over the years. Reason - what idiot changes something that was working. I am tech savvy but enjoyed rubbing shoulders with the basest characters in SA. Now all have disappeared. Also hate the multimedia and avoid all sites loaded up with such rubbish which slows down the page with irrelevant rubbish which I do not even glance at. It is like trying to watch an important sporting event and some person is interrupting, like a fly buzzing around your head.
