While this all sounds good, the reality is that quality online inventory is severely lacking in South Africa and, while online campaigns abound, true customer exposure is not being achieved.

Daddy’s Deals, a South African e-commerce site, now offers local brands the opportunity to advertise directly to its audience, on a digital platform. Utilising the deal mechanism on which the Daddy’s Deals online-model is based, advertisers will now be able to showcase their brand in a fun and enticing way. From offering free downloads of applications and educational content, to offering free tickets or discounted rates on new products; there is no limit to the types of offers that can be showcased.

The Daddy’s Deals’ campaign breaks away from the way customers are traditionally exposed to an online campaign. Most online campaigns give limited exposure with customers only being exposed to sporadic impressions. The Daddy’s Deals campaign gives advertisers constant customer contact, and a guarantee that their offer will be viewed by more than 400 000 South Africans.

“There simply aren’t enough page impressions on quality South African websites that accept advertising from other brands. The Daddy’s Deals’ solution provides the market with new access to quality inventory throughout South Africa, while adding a huge amount of new quality advertising into the market,” says Eric Edelstein, CEO at Daddy’s Deals. “This approach has never been implemented in South Africa and we expect it to achieve incredible results.” As the inventory will only be available to 12 companies per year, much interest has already been received and the first campaign will go live shortly.

Daddy’s Deals traditional online offers focus less on branding and more on the specific deals given by the merchants. “In contrast, the Daddy’s Deals activation campaign allows the advertiser massive brand exposure. They are able to brand the header bar linked to all pages on the website, and an offer block on the home page that clicks through to a fully branded main offer page; all of which gives the brand optimum stand out value. A branded ‘promote your business’ block will also be made available to advertisers on each individual offer page on the site, maximising brand exposure across the site,” says Edelstein.

Available exclusively to one advertiser per month, maximum exposure will be ensured through additional coverage provided by banners, buttons and tabs on the website. These buttons appear on every page of the website and drive viewers back to the main offer voucher page. Additional exposure is achieved through frequent mailers and special solo mailers, sent to over 400 000 South African email subscribers a few times a week. As the company used to be affiliated with Kulula Airlines, its database has its roots in the Kulula database, and as such, is made up of credible contacts.

In finding reliable, credible and engaged consumers that have a genuine interest, an acquisition opportunity exists for advertisers to entice customers to provide opt-in information, enabling them to build up a premium database of valid email addresses that belong to real people, with a real interest in the product or offering. How many customers sign up or accept the call to action for each campaign completely depends on the nature of the campaign and what is offered.
