‘The Letter’ is set in Germany in 1989 and tells the story of a man who is finally reunited with the love of his life after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

Brought-to-life by director Kim Geldenhuys, director of photography Jan Velicky, and music composer Dustin O’Halloran, the commercial was shot over four days in Riga, Latvia, with an all-German lead cast. Careful attention to factual period detail was taken, including the building of a replica of part of the wall.

Tseliso Rangaka, executive creative director of Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town, said, “‘The Letter’ commercial is the perfect story to deliver Allan Gray's long-term investment philosophy. It is about true commitment in the face of adversity, which is presented in a touching and masterful way.”

Luca Gallarelli, managing director of Ogilvy & Mather Cape Town, said, "We’re very proud of this piece of work which powerfully highlights a fundamental truth about the value of commitment and patience."

Henk Pieterse, head of Marketing at Allan Gray, explained that the commercial is “the result of a long, careful and collaborative process with the agency and it stays absolutely true to our heritage and is a reflection of Allan Gray’s investment philosophy”.
