Media Update was at the launch, which was hosted at the African Pride Hotel in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg by Maps Maponyane and CEO of Vespa South Africa, Adam Reid.

The excitement of both the Vespa team and Vespa enthusiasts was evident as the anticipation built for the big reveal. Maponyane and Reid wasted no time unveiling the Vespa 946 Emporio Armani, as they removed the cover and revealed the new product.

The name, Vespa 946, hints at 1946, the year the original scooter was launched. The new design showcased a contemporary reinterpretation of the authentic Vespa. Using galvanic treatments, the metal parts have a satin finish which to create an opaque effect. ‘Emporio Armani’ has been embellished on the side, and above the headlight the well-known eagle logo can be seen.

The Vespa 946 Emporio Armani aims to incorporate technology, style and safety into the design. The aluminium cylinder blocks, brown leather finishes, electronic riding control (which can interface with the latest Internet devices) and luxury accessories are a modern twist on the original design.
With enhanced fuel economy and minimal emissions, the four-stroke electronic injection engine takes the environment into consideration, and safety was not ignored, as the new Vespa comes with 220mm double disc brake, two-channel ABS braking system and 12-inch wheels.
