The Assegai Integrated Marketing Awards, an initiative by the Direct Marketing Association South Africa (DMASA), aim to recognise and reward exceptional results in direct marketing campaigns. Together with winning the sought-after Agency of the Year title at the awards, Gloo@Ogilvy collected a total of 23 awards; comprising nine Gold, six Silver, four Bronze and three Leader.

Campaigns for Gloo@Ogilvy’s clients Volkswagen, Vodacom and KFC did particularly well, winning a record number of awards between them.

The Assegai Awards have been a highlight for the agency for two years in a row: last year it was also the best performing agency at the awards. Ben Evans, managing director of the Digital Creative Portfolio at O&M South Africa, says; "This result is testament to the outstanding team and breadth of capability we now have in Gloo@Ogilvy. 2015 has been a great year for us, with the impact of the merger between Gloo and OgilvyOne creating great results in close partnership with our clients.”

The Assegai accolades further solidify the company’s position as the leading digital agency after a number of notable wins this year, including picking up a Gold at the Apex Awards (the only digital agency in the country to achieve this in 2015) and a Grand Prix at the Loeries for its KFC ‘SoundBite’ campaign.  It was also the only digital agency in South Africa to take home a Lion at the Cannes Lions Festival earlier this year and has been shortlisted for AdReview’s Agency of the Year

“We look forward to building on this success in 2016,” says Evans.

Pete Case, chief creative officer of O&M South Africa attributes the agency’s success to Ogilvy’s ‘twin peaks’ approach of strategic effectiveness combined with creative excellence.

“Critical to a high creative standard is the campaign efficacy; meeting clients’ business needs. No matter how imaginative, if the work is not grounded in a strong strategic foundation, it will not deliver on real business objectives,” says Case.

Case adds; “Along with Gloo@Ogilvy’s recent string of successes, the Assegai Awards has served to highlight the agency’s ongoing commitment to delivering work that ticks both the creative excellence and strategic effectiveness boxes – pivotal to a campaign’s substantive success.”

“Tonight’s wins are testament to the bravery of our clients – without their support and collaboration none of this would have been possible,” concludes Case.
