Waterhouse joined Aqua on Tuesday, 1 September 2015 and has over 20 years of international integrated marketing experience. Her key expertise includes managing diverse total solution accounts with a focus on CRM, data, digital, and mobile marketing, whilst ensuring integration with brand, retail, brand activation and promotion.

“Shelley is tasked with leading the over 50 person strong Aqua client service and project management teams, and to support the Aqua Group offices and pan-African teams. She is also responsible for driving new business. She is a key member of our executive board and has a wealth of experience and a proven track record in driving measurable business results for both her clients and agency, which makes her an excellent fit for this role,” says Brent Shahim, chairperson of Aqua Group.

Waterhouse says a big focus for her role will be to create a client service team that is business and sales fit.

“Over the last decade, client service executives have become generalists and stepped away from being strategically minded. In today’s marketing environment, they need to play a more strategic role by becoming trusted advisors to clients and offering the right integrated solutions to meet their business objectives seamlessly,” says Waterhouse.

Originally from Canada, Waterhouse started her agency career at Wunderman Toronto in 1995. She moved to South Africa in 2011 where she joined Ogilvy & Mather. In 2012, she launched and headed up OgilvyOne Worldwide, Johannesburg and was subsequently promoted from managing partner to deputy MD, and was a core member of the OgilvyOne South Africa Board.

Waterhouse’s diverse experience spans several categories, such as telecommunications and cellular, retail, hotel, automotive, pharmaceutical and government sectors, with much of her career focused on financial services. Her international experience includes strategic global campaign planning and international outreach programmes within Canada, U.S., U.K, France, Spain and Japan, as well as multi-city team leadership spanning Toronto, Vancouver, New York, Atlanta and London. She hopes to expand her global experience to include more pan-African work.
