The traditional Greek Taverna, Platia, opened its doors on 12 October in the newly revamped Emporium at the ultimate family destination, Emperors Palace. Guests of Emperors Palace can now enjoy authentic Greek cuisine in true Mediterranean style, right in the heart of Gauteng.

Platia is adorned with Fresco paintings and mosaics, offering the finest Mediterranean cuisine, with the added entertainment of belly dancers; plate breaking; and dancing until the early hours. The restaurant serves a range of signature Greek dishes that will gratify even the most discerning palate. Some of the delectable dishes that Platia has on offer include Kleftiko, a melt-in-the-mouth, slow roasted marinated lamb shank packed with aromatic herbs; Moussaka, a traditional combination of tender layered aubergines, tasty mince and rich béchamel sauce; ocean fresh whole line fish grilled on an open flame; as well as an assortment of meze dishes. To top it off, enjoy Galaktobouriko, a decadent baked custard dessert wrapped in delicate phyllo pastry.

“We are an authentic Greek restaurant that prepares delicious and generously served Greek food in the same way that our yayas (grandmothers) and mothers used to prepare for us. Platia, for us, is reminiscent of warm summer days out on the platia (town square), and we hope to bring out a little bit of Greece to Emperors Palace,” says Chris Malamas, owner of Platia.

Nearly R100-million has been spent on the new Emporium, and it is now a state-of-the-art venue that boasts sensational dining and entertainment venues. Already opened at the Emporium is the popular Col’Cacchio Pizzeria; the exotic Taste of Mumbai; Tribes African Grill and Steakhouse; Ocean Basket; and family favourite, Gold Rush Spur. Set to join this fabulous array of restaurants is News Cafe; Portuguese restaurant, Braza; and trendy sports venue, Sportsville. It’s no surprise that Platia, a successful international restaurant with a global presence that spans three continents, has opened at the Emporium.

Platia seats 200 guests comfortably, and has smoking and non-smoking areas.
