The response to the show by the South African public has been unprecedented, resulting in a complete sell-out within days after opening. Prior to the first performance on 25 January, the show had already sold over 80% of its inventory, making Riverdance the most successful pre-sales show at The Teatro since this world-class venue opened in May 2005.

As a consequence of exceptional demand the show's South African promoter, BIG Concerts, extended the Johannesburg dates by two weeks, making its season at The Teatro a full three-week run. Riverdance moves to Cape Town's Grand West Arena, opening on 23 February and therefore additional shows at The Teatro cannot be scheduled.

From the staging of specialist shows such as Riverdance, Cinderella on Ice and Shaolin Monks to major international musicals such as Chicago, Grease, Beauty & The Beast and opening next month, Dreamgirls, as well as an array of South Africa's finest local and international singers such as Hugh Masekela, The Parlotones and Annie Lennox, The Teatro at Montecasino has revolutionised the musical theatre industry and created a new benchmark for live entertainment in South Africa.

Traffic alert for Riverdance ticket holders

Riverdance patrons who have purchased tickets for the matinee shows at the Teatro at Montecasino on Saturday, 19 February and Sunday, 20 February are requested to arrive early in order to avoid possible traffic delays. The Cell C Tour of South Africa, a two day international cycling event featuring 120 riders in 20 teams, made up of 14 International and six local teams culminates on the Montecasino Piazza with great fanfare at around 14:00 on both days. The influx of guests to Montecasino next weekend may slow traffic and therefore Riverdance ticket holders are urged to allow for extra time prior to the show matinees.
