The competition, which is the brainchild of music company executive and talent scout, Lindelani Mkhize, kicks off with the countrywide auditions on 1 June, with the aim of showcasing thirty of the best singers for thirteen grueling weeks in Johannesburg. This is where the contestants will have to prove to Mkhize why he should turn one of them into one of South Africa’s gospel singing sensations.

A veritable music genius and the prodigious producer behind the SAMA-winning Joyous Celebration, Mkhize, together with his panel of weekly guest judges, will be faced with the difficult task of searching for the next gospel star.
On the host’ seat, the show will be presented by the renowned gospel artist, Thabo Mduli.

The first season of I Want To Sing Gospel saw Durban born Lungisani Ntuli walk away with R100 000 in cash and a recording contract with Lindelani Mkhize Entertainment in 2008.

Commented SABC2’s publicity manager, Zandile Nkonyeni: “We are excited to be broadcasting a second season of I Want To Sing Gospel. The show is without a doubt a free platform for anyone who believes they have a singing talent and that star appeal to join the likes of Rebecca Malope, Deborah Fraser and Benjamin Dube.
