Shift started six years ago with hosts Bongani Zindela, Cuma Maschicila and Rhulani Baloyi. Bongani and Cuma contributed to the popularity of the show; their labours of love, charm and enthusiasm was encouraging to guests, production staff and viewers” says Surekha Singh, SABC Education’s public information and social development commissioning editor.

Shift has grown and reaches just under a million viewers on average every month. The stalwart of Shift is presenter Rhulani Baloyi who presented the original proposal to the SABC. Rhulani has intellect, incisiveness, multi-lingual ability, charm and good looks, never allowing her blindness hinder her in any way, but rather making it an asset. Aaron Moloisi, co-presenter of Shift adds youth, charisma and delight to the show broadcast on SABC1 every Monday and Tuesday from 13:30 to 14:30.

Shift came about from a need for a show to equip communities with practical skills and empower them to improve their lives. The purpose of Shift is to encourage South Africans to stand up and enrich their lives. The show offers inspiration and information to the unemployed, youth and available viewers during the day. The content on Shift has grown to be more inclusive of careers, employment opportunities and delivering on the millennium development goals and national imperatives. Over the years Shift has also broadcast live from most of the provinces with North West been the most recent. Shift is live and highly interactive through phone calls, sms, email, ivr and Facebook which has a following of approximately 23 000 fans.” ends Surekha.
