Fighting for what they believed in didn’t come with a salary for people like Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu. Exiled and living ‘underground’ they forfeited ‘ordinary’ lives with their family in order to achieve their vision of an equal South Africa, at the risk of imprisonment and death. However it would seem that an ANC membership card these days is a passport to entitlement, luxury homes and cars and a billionaire’s lifestyle. ANC members today preach democracy, freedom of speech and movement and a fair constitution for all; however it is the very same members who allegedly disrupted Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Helen Zille's planned visit to President Jacob Zuma's homestead in Nkandla.
Shole-Mashao asks whether this is something Mandela would have done or encouraged.
