In Comedy Central Presents Tumi Morake Live at Parker’s, taped at Parker’s Comedy and Jive, Montecasino, Johannesburg, in September, Morake demonstrates just why she’s lauded as South Africa’s top female comedian, commanding the stage with her intelligent, outspoken and provocative brand of comedy.

Morake began her comedy journey in a student production of Shakespeare’s 12th Night playing the role of Feste, the clown. It turned out to be a fitting and prophetic role for Morake who has subsequently received praise as a screenwriter, actress and comedian. Morake’s biggest comedy gigs to date have included emcee-ing the Woodstock Festival, being part of the line-up for 46664’s “It’s No Joke”, being the only woman in the Vodacom Funny Festival and appearing in her critically acclaimed one-woman show Herstory. Morake was recently selected to MC Comedy Central’s first African 'Roast', The Comedy Central Roast of Steve Hofmeyr.

Supporting Morake in the hilarious comedy showcase are Eddie Eckstein, Martin Evans, Jason Goliath and Loyiso Madinga.

South African comedy legend, Edwin Richard Eckstein a.k.a Eddie, cut his show-business teeth as a Rock 'n Roll singer in the early sixties. Eventually Eckstein followed a solo career as an actor and comedian, interpreting the part of Mannie Bloom in John Cundill's television series Oh George and spending a year in Sydney, Australia, in I Love My Wife. Since returning to South Africa, his theatre appearances have included starring roles in Little Shop of Horrors, Pyjama Tops, Not Now Darling, Grin and Bear It and What About Love.

Martin Evans is described by his peers as having one of the finest comedy minds in the business. With an intelligent and sophisticated sense of humour, Evans has long been praised for his originality and his quality of performances, which have seen him headlining and mc-ing comedy gigs both at home and abroad. With over 20 international commercials under his belt, Evans is recognised as the face of many TV commercials, most recently, as the lead in the Castle Lager and ABSA investments campaigns. Evans recently won back-to-back Standard Bank Ovation Awards for his solo show and his partnership with Rob Van Vuuren in Pants on Fire at this year’s National Arts Festival in Grahamstown.

Jason Goliath is a larger than life comedian with a commanding stage presence, bucket loads of energy and a character based set focused on making audiences laugh at life’s uncomfortable truths. A regular fixture at leading comedy venues around the country, Goliath currently features in the comedy sitcom Ses ‘topla on SABC.

Loyiso Madinga, most recent winner of the popular stand-up competition, Graça Comedy Showdown, created a stir with his performance during the 2012 Nando’s Jozi Comedy Festival in Johannesburg and Soweto. With only a handful of performances under his belt, Madinga is already well on his way to becoming the next big name in SA comedy.
