RISE FM took the lead in terms of showing the most growth at 33.3% increase since the last tally. In second place, North West FM has enjoyed a steady climb with an increase of just over 15 000 listeners at 7.9% up from January to June this year. Coming up in third place is KwaZulu Natal’s Vuma 103 FM who also upped their game slightly with a 1.6% increase which lead to a 73.1% annual increase.

Tony Mallam, head of radio at Times Media Limited says; “Of the 38 commercial radio stations measured in this survey, only 11 showed growth. Three of those are in the Times Media Radio stable, so we are satisfied to see that our growth strategies are paying off in a tough market.”

Vuma 103 FM
and RISE FM are also in the top three of the 13 stations which have managed to realise a percentage increase year on year.

RISE was launched in March 2014, and the growth shown by RAMS is a direct reflection of the impact the station is making in the Mpumulanga market. RISE owns the province, and nothing happens in Mpumulanga without the involvement of the station. Vuma was launched late in 2012, and acquired by Times Media in January 2014, so it’s also relatively new to the stable. In a tough, competitive market, Vuma is showing evidence of clear and consistent growth, on track for a substantial share of audiences,” adds Mallam.

RISE FM
and Vuma 103 FM were the only commercial stations in their respective provinces to show growth in both year-on-year and diary-on-diary listenership. This is a direct result of the investment in better product and marketing activities, and the ongoing management by Times Media Radio.
