For the last months of 2014 and the first half of 2015, Johannesburg-based recording artist, Ross Jack has been working and recording for his sophomore release, Self Medicated, due out on Friday, 30 October.
Jack began in the music industry as a beat-maker for up and coming hip hop acts before progressing to full producer credits for the likes of Toya Delazy, HHP, Chiano Sky and Khuli Chana.
His Self Medicated project saw Jack travel to the UK to work with London-based producer Pete Martin and consequently can attribute six of the final album tracks to this valuable work.
Jack talks about those two months in the UK as “an urban adventure that set the tone for the record”. He says; “The music became a film score, with the city the underlying visual element that runs through this album.”
"With Self Medicated I’ve learned more about the process of creation and recording and I feel it’s way more authentic ... and is definitely my best work to date,” he concludes.
Self Medicated will be released by Sony Music Africa on Friday, 30 October.
