The SABC said the awards are highly regarded worldwide, and recognize the creative talent required to produce on-air material to assist broadcasters to attract and retain viewers.

"Being involved in PromaxBDA Africa not only allowed the SABC to unearth its own talent, but support the promo production industry as a whole to nurture and recognise creative excellence," the public broadcaster says. "The PromaxBDA Africa conference and awards underscore the importance of this industry to create top-of-mind awareness for a broadcaster’s brand, channel or programming."

The public broadcaster received five awards at the event, being as follows:

  • SABC2 entry, Post Afcon Promo, won Gold for Best Entertainment Promo;
  • SABC entry, SABC Children, won Gold for Best Children Promo;
  • SABC Corporate entry, Human Rights Promo, won Gold for Best Special Event Promo;
  • SABC Corporate entry, Human Rights Promos, won Gold for Public Service Announcement/Community; and
  • SABC2 entry, 7 De Laan, won Gold for Best Programme Title Sequence.
