The World AIDS Day book sale will run in conjunction with Wola Nani’s pop-up shop in the centre which is part of Cavendish Square’s larger involvement with the NGO. Apart from crafts, homeware and fashion accessories made by the women of the Income Generation programme of Wola Nani, the pop-up shop will also stock more books sold to beneficiate the organisation.

“Book lovers and collectors will be especially excited about the December book sale” according to Well Read Books convenor Mark Leach. “With the extra space that the pop-up shop affords us, we will be bringing out for the first time a treasure trove of coffee table books suitable for Christmas gifting, collectible modern first editions, Africana, ephemera, literary curiosities and rarities. From books that open up to form Victorian Dolls Houses to a first edition of Jock of the Bushveld, from Chanel catalogues to art books, shoppers can look forward to a cornucopia of riches”.

The book sale in the forecourt will encompass fiction, Mind Body Spirit, modern classics (literary fiction), crime, thriller, cooking, poetry, business, South African and African writing, children’s, humour, arts, armchair travel, biography and non-fiction. Additionally there will be stocks of cult and classic CD and DVD titles including TV series box sets.

Wola Nani, which is Xhosa for ‘embrace’, was established in 1994. The NGO operates a variety of programmes to support women, orphans and vulnerable children infected and affected by the HIV/AIDS pandemic.
