“We believe more needs to be done to support the small business sector as it is the engine for job creation and economic development. The time is now to moblise society to go big by supporting small business,” says Mike Anderson, founder and CEO of NSBC.
Nedbank and the NSBC have realised that action needs to be taken in order for an injection of inspiration to fuel economic growth and the creation of potential to improve on South Africa’s competitiveness nationally and internationally through small business.
GroundUp Media was given the opportunity to be helped by Nedbank and be recognised for the company’s potential as a developing enterprise by means of the Its My Biz show. NSBC also awarded GroundUp Media ‘small business of the week’ in June, as through the advice and guidance gained and implemented; GroundUp Media has excelled.
Gareth Moll, founder and CEO of GroundUp Media, believes that in order to succeed as a small business within South Africa, these businesses have to work together and become a unified entity of support and motivation. To that end he has been top contributor on the Simplybiz site numerous times as he is passionate about advising other entrepreneurs on best practice and being available for encouragement and inspiration. With the implementation of strategic partnerships with likeminded small businesses whose foundation is formed on ethical business practices, GroundUp Media have attracted numerous new clients resulting in the permanent team growing to five permanent members as well as a new Animation and Aerial divisions.
Moll has been inspired by the example Nedbank and the NSBC have set and in the same light positions GroundUp Media as a corporate citizen, also contributing towards the country’s enterprise development goals. GroundUp Media partnered with SOS Children’s Village South Africa and trained a promising teenager to be able to create awareness and promote SOS Children’s Village in creating a brighter future for the children.
Investing in enterprise development is imperative for the future growth of South Africa’s economy and “every small business on average creates employment for nine people” was stated earlier this year by Ingrid Johnson from Nedbank Group.
GroundUp Media is of the opinion that in order for South Africa’s economy to replenish and grow stronger small businesses must be supported as they are the single most powerful tool in dealing with poverty through creating jobs.
