Last October, Facebook launched slideshows on Instagram and its own platform. The advertising tool easily builds lightweight videos from a set of photos or an existing video.

“Although slideshow was created to allow advertisers to use video-like adverts in areas with slow connections, it’s become a great asset for large and small businesses around the world who want an easy, cost-effective way to showcase products and tell their brand story,” the announcement read.

Building on this, Facebook’s new tool now allows its users to turn videos into slideshows. Video assets uploaded into the tool are automatically turned into 10 image stills, which are then used to build the slideshow. “This can be combined with 2G targeting to simply and effectively deliver video creative to users on low-bandwidth connections,” according to the company.

Slideshow’s new features include the ability to add text, select templates, and choose colours for slideshows. Facebook offers audio tracks that reflect a range of different themes and it will soon allow marketers to upload their own audio tracks. The new development also enables the creation of slideshows with Android mobile devices.

The company has integrated the slideshow function with its stock image database and the Pages Photo Library feature. Advertisers can use these stock photos, reuse photos from their Pages Photo Library, or upload new photos.
