Broadcasting live from Wednesday, 3 July until Friday, 5 July, Nick Hamman will bring audiences all the surf news and interviews from Willard Beach during his show, Hammantime, which airs on weekdays from 09:00 to noon. The Top 40 Charts with Msizi James will also broadcast from the surf contest from 10:00 to 14:00.

The Ballito Pro 2019’s free music concerts are powered by 5FM and will see 5FM DJs take to the decks at Salt Rock Main Beach on Thursday, 4 July and Friday, 5 July.

Kicking off from 16:00 on both days, 5FM’s DJ Loyd and Ryan the DJ take the stage alongside Durban’s Gqom duo, Distruction Boyz and Lady Zamar on the Thursday, while Thando Thabethe takes on the duty as concert MC. On Friday, Kyle Cassim and Msizi James take to the decks as James also doubles as the MC for the night.

The weekend aims to be non-stop entertainment and will continue late into the night with the After Dark Parties at Crush nightclub.

"5FM has been a proud media partner of the Ballito Pro for a few years now, broadcasting live from the event for well over 10 years," says 5FM’s acting station manager, Liesl Hefkie.

"The station looks forward to heading to Ballito each year and being at the heart of the event, bringing listeners from around the country closer to the action. The Ballito Pro endorses some inspired CSI initiatives, which the station is proud to be involved with through its own CSI arm, 'Youngblood5'," Hefkie adds.

The Ballito Pro 2019 will aim to support community-based surf development programmes by hosting a Development Surf Day on Sunday, 7 July, the last day of the festivities, with its event ambassador Sal Masekela.

Masekela, son of jazz musician Hugh Masekela, is the founder of Stoked Mentoring, a non-profit organisation that aims to use action sports to empower children from underprivileged communities in the United States.

"The Ballito Pro, presented by O'Neill, has enjoyed a longstanding partnership with SABC’s 5FM. [The partnership] has allowed us, through the platform of this iconic event, the opportunity to contribute tangibly — not only to tourism development but also, more importantly, to the youth through our various activations and programmes," adds Ballito Pro event co-ordinator, Collette Bundy.

"Through this sports, music and recreation event, we are able to bring together many audiences and people of all ages in South Africa," concludes Bundy.
