Kontrol met the hype making it onto several radio stations’ top charts within its first week of release, and debuted at number four on the
iTunes Hip-Hop Chart.
The
Kontrol video made its first public appearance on Saturday, 4 May on MTVBaseAfrica and later that evening on SABC’s
LiveAmp. The video was shot in various locations across Johannesburg and was produced by Young Legends Films and directed by Yanga Ntshakaza. The video has been well received by AKA fans across the continent having reached 10 000
YouTube hits in just under 48 hours, a personal
YouTube best for AKA.
"The
Kontrol video is something I am very proud of. We wanted a video that is authentic in representing what Joburg life is really about. The styling, the locations, we really paid attention to detail. One of my favorite videos from my catalogue," expressed AKA.
The hype of the
Kontrol video comes just as the 19
th South African Music Awards are about to take place, in which AKA has been nominated for Best Video of the Year for his track,
Jealousy.
Jealousy was the first single to be released off AKA’s second solo studio album,
LeveLs, from which
Kontrol followed.
LeveLs is due to be released in July.
