A feature-packed, interactive website is enabling Jeff Ayleff and the BP Ultimate Challenge to reach listeners from all corners of the country. The BP Ultimate Challenge, which is running on 94.7 Highveld Stereo and 94.5 Kfm, asks listeners to identify where their intrepid traveler, Jeff Ayleff is, based on a series of clues which he gives out throughout the day.

The milestones along his country-wide trip from Cape Town to Johannesburg are the 10 stadiums that will be used for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. In between, Jeff will be exploring all the amazing places our country has to offer.

While Jeff is physically in a VW Polo, visiting the stadiums personally and trying out the tourist activities and attractions first hand, he’s sharing his experiences with listeners constantly through an online offering and with the help of Twitter.

Jeff not only Tweets all his clues, he also Tweets about the places he has seen; the things he’s done; and drives his Twitter followers to the stations’ websites to see pictures and watch videos taken at the various destinations.

The site itself is one of the most interactive the stations have ever produced.

In addition to logging his Tweets, it allows listeners to follow Jeff’s journey on an interactive map, powered by Google, with links to diary updates that include photos and videos. All of these clues help users to figure out where he is going next. The site also showcases some of the best tourism opportunities South Africa has on offer.

A keen skydiver; rock climber; nature lover; and extreme sports enthusiast, Jeff has been taking pictures and shooting videos of all his adventures and discoveries. These are posted on his page on the Highveld and Kfm websites. Many of these pics and videos show Jeff going behind the scenes at the stadiums, sitting in the president’s chair in the presidential suite, or in the players seats on the pitch. These rare, once-in-a-lifetime experiences are all shared with fans on the site.

There is also a stadium-o-meter which allows listeners to go on a virtual tour of all the stadiums Jeff has visited. With the aid of a 360 degree panning camera, this feature can zoom in and out at any point and allows anyone who can log on to the website to get a feel for what it’s like to be inside the stadiums.

“The site is full of interactive elements that showcase the World Cup and our country, it is evolving into a great resource for anyone who wants to know more about what South Africa has to offer,” said Simon Parkinson, Promotions Manager for Primedia Broadcasting, which owns both stations.

“In addition to creating compelling on-air content with the challenge, we are teaching many of our listeners about attractions and destinations they may not have heard about. The online offering shows them what Jeff’s been talking about, it is a comprehensive travelogue which hopefully entices more listeners to explore our country.

There are two separate competitions running simultaneously. An online competition asks website users how many kilometres Jeff will travel in total, and how many litres of BP Ultimate fuel he will use on the journey. It uses a simple entry mechanism, but goes to the core of the clients objectives with this campaign – to highlight the efficiency of BP Ultimate fuel.

There is also a competition for Club VIP members, who are part of the station’s loyalty club, to win a new VW Polo, just like the one Jeff has been touring the country in. For those who don’t win, the BP Ultimate Challenge website lets them travel with Jeff through the countryside.
